An extended range transmission port is an optical component that provides for transmission of radiation in either the ultra violet or infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Standard viewports made of either fused silica or sapphire have useful transmission from .25 microns to 2.5 or 4.0 microns respectively. Extended range window materials have a combined transmission range from .12 microns to 20.0 microns.

  • This KF sight glass is designed for vacuum hygienic applications. It is simple to install with no risk of breakage. This is a single-piece part ideal for use on food processing equipment (A3-Standard).
  • The housing is made from stainless steel or Hastelloy, with a material certificate traceable to the steel manufacturer. The sight glass is fused to the metal conforming to DIN 7079 where the glass is Borosilicate per DIN 7080.
  • These sights are sealed to the process vessel with an elastomer gasket. Use standard KF clamps to mount the sight windows to the process vessel. For hygienic applications use Tri Sanitary Clamps. KF sight glasses are manufactured to high tolerances with electropolished metal surfaces for improved cleanliness.

Pressure windows made of glass need to be made very thick to avoid failure. Generally the thicker the material the greater the cost. Meller Sapphire Viewport Windows feature Moh 9 hardness, which is second only to diamond, and can operate from UHV to 10,000 psi at temperatures from cryogenic to 1,000°C, depending upon configuration. Custom fabricated to assure a reliable seal, they are manufactured to specification with stepped edges and elliptical edge shaping, holes, slots, and wedges for mounting.

Available in flat and spherical configurations from 1/4" to 10" dia. and 1/2 mm to 1" thick with A/R coatings, Meller Sapphire Viewport Windows feature flatness of 0.5 fringes HeNe and parallelism from 20 to 2 arc/secs. Resistant to chemicals (fluorine to 300°C) and most acids, these sapphire viewports are impervious to water, blowing dirt, and sand.
